“Lighting was designed by Cameron Barrus. Barrus did a fantastic job plotting lighting that was appropriate for each scene and mood. It was lively, and aesthetically pleasing. As a frequent audience member, it continually amazes me how something as simple as a color can delineate and represent the entire mood and emotion of a scene. I felt that it was a very powerful use of visual imagery. Through the performance, Barrus’ cuing to enhance each scene was spot on. I especially enjoyed how the lighting complimented the scenic design, giving the audience the impression of the mood of the scene.” - Genevieve Croft , Associate Critic for John Garcia's THE COLUMN

”Cameron Barrus’s lighting design matches up perfecting with the sets. His palette is an array of luxurious rich colors. He creates fine, detailed lighting that moves with the actor, or bathes the background with lighting that enhances the music and the singing. Barrus went full out with the megamix transforming the stage into a pulsating dance club! This is first rate work here by Barrus.” - John Garcia, Senior Chief Critic/Editor/Founder for John Garcia's THE COLUMN

“Lighting was designed by Cameron Barrus. (Theatrical talent certainly runs in the family!) There are few things a lighting designer can implement in such a straightforward play to represent day and night. However, I felt the mood was established and consistent throughout the course of the play. There were some lovely silhouettes and moments that were established and highlighted throughout the course of the story. There was almost a magical feel created with lighting during the course of the play. The most powerful lighting moment was in the end of the play, and the audience is left with the picture of an illuminated saxophone-one of the most recognizable item in Joe Pendleton’s life. Created in an amber tone, it was almost as if a Heavenly spirit had chosen to irradiate that one significant item and give it great meaning-for the audience to think about as the story was coming to an end. What a powerful moment! “ Genevieve Croft , Associate Critic for John Garcia's THE COLUMN

"Cameron Barrus did an amazing job with lighting. In the Wizard of Oz, each land has its own mood, and their design did not disappoint. The Kansas prairie was full of yellow and orange undertones for an old-fashioned, sepia feel, while Munchkinland was full of vibrant colors and bright lights. Everything was transferred to green once Dorothy and the gang reached Oz, shifting into deep black and red once the foursome headed to the Wicked Witch of the West’s castle. Mood transitions were immediate and set the tone for each scene, toppling this musical over the edge." - Angela Newby of The Column by John Garcia

"Lighting by Cameron Barrus melds so harmoniously with the rest of the musical, it is easy to forget to reflect on it. Spotlights and backlighting are used to enhance the vocals of the cast, and as the set extends past the stage, using the sides of the auditorium as the gang planks and the life boats, the use of spotlights also draws the audience to those locations then become dark to highlight the action onstage. Barrus is a true master at work behind this design that flows within the musical itself." Angela Newby of The Column by John Garcia

"The lighting designed by Cameron Barrus was superior in color palette choices, focus, and precision. Many scenes were bathed in glorious color or, when it came to dramatic moments, the stage was slathered in blood red. For one dark scene in the second act, Barrus had whirling, blinding spears of white light. Even for a theater in a round, and an intimate one at that, Barrus had lighting that was specific and in perfect harmony with the staging and blocking. That's a rare (and I mean RARE) quality in many theaters today." John Garcia of The Column by John Garcia
